Ueno is a popular tourists spot because it offers numerous shrines and museums, a bustling shopping street, Ameyoko, a huge zoo and lots of other exiting things to do. Ueno is in the Shitamachi area which used to be ‘Downtown’ back in the Edo era so you will find many restaurants and shops with a long history.

One thing you might want to know is that since it is one of the most popular destinations for foreign tourists to check out, you will see more tourists than locals.

Station Info

Ueno is quite a big station. Tohoku (North East Japan) Bullet trains which come from Yamagata, Akita, Hokkaido, Joetsu and Hokuriku stop at Ueno. So it is a great spot to stay if you are planning to travel those area while your Tokyo stay. In addition to all the bullet trains, Ueno Station has JR, Metro Ginza line ands Hibiya Line.
